Ambulance 5-2 was dispatched to 98 Williams Rin Road for an injured person from a fall. Lancaster County 911 advised the EMS crew of a 19 year old male who had fallen from a lift and was unconscious.
Upon arrival, EMS crews found patient lying in a pit that was part of the lift that was being used. Chief 5-2 (Reimold) was at Station 5-2 and advised dispatch that Squad 5-2 would be going to scene for assistance to the EMS crew. Squad 5-2 went on location at 11:06 hours.
Once at the scene, Chief 5-2 requested that the assignment be upgraded to an Industrial Rescue (bringing in Rescue 4-2 from Gap Fire Company) due to the location of the patient. At that same time, Lancaster County EMS Medic 9 had assessed the patient and felt that due to the nature of his injuries that SkyCare might be needed and asked LCWC 911 to have them put on standby.
Engine 5-2-1 (Lofgren) marked a response 11:09 hours with a crew of 6. At the scene, the engine crew pulled work lights and tripods to set up proper lighting for the rescue crews.
Rescue 4-2 went responding at 11:10 hours with a crew of 7 and arriving at 11:15 hours, asked that Truck 4-2 be added to the call to be used for rigging needs.
Due to the medical state of the patient, SkyCare was placed on the call and Deputy 4-2 established a landing zone in a nearby location. SkyCare marked enroute at 11:22 hours with a 2 minute ETA. SkyCare arrived on the scene at 11:25 hours and relocated their crew to the scene to assist with patient care.
Rescue 4-2, Truck 4-2 and crew members from Station 5-2 worked together to immobilize patient on a stokes basket and make sure of his safety. At 11:27 hours, patient was lifted from his location and moved to a safer location for a more intensive assessment by the EMS crews and SkyCare. Patient was then loaded into the medical helicopter and SkyCare departed the scene at 11:40 hours inbound to LGH with patient.
After the patient was safe and on his way for medical treatment, the crews from Sations 4-2 and 5-2 worked together to clean up the scene and all units were available at 11:48 hours.
Crews from both stations wish the patient a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with their family in this time in their lives.
