The Christiana Fire Company announces the permanent placement of Tanker 52-2 out of service. After several meetings within the Operational team, a recommendation to the Administration board and body in general was to sell Tanker 52-2 and using the gained funds from the sale to help fund a replacement unit for the aging Tanker 52-1.

The Operational team has been looking at devising a plan for the replacement of the 27-year-old Tanker 52-1 for well over a year. Taking into account the economic crunch of all municipalities we serve, as well as the limited revenue from taxpayers, we have taken the steps to scale back on expenses while maintaining the first class emergencies services that our residents have come to know and expect. By reaching a consensus to eliminate one piece of apparatus in order to save on maintenance, fuel, and operational costs, we feel that we have positioned ourselves for continuing our critical services well into the future.

After reaching an agreement between the Operational and Administrative boards, the Fire Company has approved the sale of Tanker 52-2 to the Longwood Fire Company, and has also begun the task of designing the new Tanker 52. Once the company takes delivery of a new Pumper-Tanker, a process will begin to sell the nearly three-decade old Tanker.

While we are somewhat sad to see the absence of our current two tankers, we recognize the magnitude of the decision is in the best interest of the department and the communities we protect.
